Adapting

It's been more than a month since I came home. I am back to the "boleh' land, where the meaning of 'boleh'-ness can be quite ambiguous.

Surprisingly, the transportation services have improved tremendously from the last time I came back. It's similar (not the same) to translink services in Brissy. But, I am still coping with attitudes of the people of my own nation. One of those most annoying instances is when people here generally have no courtesy to wait for other people to get down from the bus/train first, before they hop onto it. Safety is apparently not a concern. Trains and busses are almost always overflowed with passengers.

Asians (including myself), unlike Aussies are hardworking people. Their work schedule says that they work only from 9am - 5.30pm, but they tend to stay an hour (sometimes a few hours) longer. People who live far away from workplace, me for example, will have to leave latest an hour before work starts just to arrive in time. I have also learned that certain Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are working days. The challenge is to be able to balance work-time, family-time, boyfriend-time, girlfriends-time and my-time.

Malaysian food is tasty ( I finally had my banana leaf rice, roti canai, karipap, nasi lemak, pisang goreng, durian and the list goes on) but definitely no where close to healthy food. Recent doctor check-up reported that my cholestrol level is high. This means that there is an urgent need for me to cut down tasty Malaysian food, (because tasty is almost always= oily + unhealthy). I probably also need to resume my exercise routine.

Things I love about Msia:

I love the culture diversity in this country.

I love speaking Bahasa Melayu especially when I attempt to speak like the Melayus.

I love my mother tongue which I hardly get to speak when I was in Australia.

I am starting to feel like I love my job, as much as I have complained so much.

I love the feeling of being with my family, my boyfriend and friends that I have lost touch.

I love playing music on my piano.

Interesting happenings:

I started my first full-time job before I could settle down properly.

One of my close friends is married and I am happy for her and her life-long partner.

My relationship with my significant someone has been escalating, even with the ups and downs. Let's see where this journey will bring us to.

Things that I miss in Queensland:

I miss having cereals and bagels for breakfast.

I miss jogging and swimming, at the UQ sports center, whenever I like.

I miss my hyenas, cousin, and my lovely friends in aussie.

I miss my sister who is now in NSW.

I miss hearing strange Australian accent.

I miss beautiful beaches in Gold Coast and Point Lookout.

I miss broadband and cheap phone call rates.

I miss logging onto translink.com.au to find my route to places.

I miss baking and cooking at Sandford Street.

I miss dry bathroom floors and clean public toilets.

I am adapting but there are times, when it could be frustrating. But it's a beautiful feeling, when I dream and think of the reasons that I am here.
